The Cayman Islands comprise Grand Cayman, and the 'sister' islands Cayman Brac and Little Cayman and cover a total area of 100 square miles. The islands lie at a distance of 460 miles south of Miami and approximately 180 miles northwest of Jamaica.

The largest and most well known island is Grand Cayman which is 22 miles long and between 1 and 8 miles wide rising at its highest point to only 60 ft above sea level.

The combined population of the islands is estimated to be 42,000 with native Caymanians forming half of this number.
